Foreigners, who come to Russia for the first time seldom know much about Russian art and Russian Artists. However, Russia has a whole pleiade of outstanding artists whose works you can see in the State Russian Museum.
The Russian Museum is an art gallery, which was established in 1895 to the orders of the last Russian Tsar Nicholas II. The collection of Russian paintings which was assembled by his father, Alexander III, became the core of the collection of the museum. That’s why the museum was called after Alexander III.

- Works of the Russian Impressionists of the late XIX early XX century, such as Serov, Kuindzhi, Korovin
- Russian avangardists, including Kandinsky and Malevich
- Socialist Realism – a very special trend of Russian art which developed in the USSR and was mostly devoted to the happy life of workers and peasants of the Soviet Union.
